Does the term privacy mean anything to you, Catullus? "Valē puella. Iam Catullus obdūrat, nec tē requīret nec rogābit invītam. At tū dolebis, cum rogāberis nūlla. Scelesta, vae tē! quae tibī manet vīta? Quis nunc tē adībit?Cui vidēberis bella? Quem nunc amābis? Cuius esse dīcēris? Quem bāsiābis? Cui labella mordēbis?" Oh Catullus, deep down you realize that you will never get over me. Do not lie and tell yourself that you are firm. Just a few poems ago, you wanted to kiss me thousands upon thousands of times. Also you said and I quote "Not only do I want to kiss you... but I want to love you each and every day that I live." How dare you think that I cannot find love! I am an independent woman! I do not need you nor, nor did I ever need you. Also, no need to worry Catullus, I have 300 worthy men all waiting to kiss me.

Catullus
ReplyDeleteLesbia do forgive my bitterness, you are not deserving of that. I wrote that poem in frustration after failing again to "swoop you off your feet". I thought that I can never have you by my side, but now I am more determined than ever. I know that you still have feeling for me Lesbia! "Dicebas quondam solum te nosse Catullum, Lesbia, nec prae me velle tenere Iouem. You once said that you knew only Catullus, Lesbia, and you did not want to hold Jove before me. See, those feelings were once present and I am certain that they will come back with more passion than ever.
AAAAAAAAAAAAH! Do you ever give up? While I do find persistence an attractive quality in a man, I am not attracted toward you, so this does not matter. Catullus, as hard as you work on your poetry, you should be able to back what you proclaim. Dicit: sed mulier cupido quod dicit amanti, in vento et rapida scribere oportet aqua. She says these things, but what a woman says to her desirous lover is fitting to write on the wind and on fast-flowing water. You said yourself that whatever I said cannot be trusted, so why bother with me. If you think that I am not good enough for you, then stop STALKING me. I have been over you, Catullus, for some time now, so I will celebrate the day in which you are not madly in love with me.

ReplyDeleteLesbia, you of all people should know that your derogatory words toward me, just motivates me even more. "Nunc te cognovi: quare etsi impensius uror... Qui potis est, inquis? Quod amantem iniuria talis cogit amare magis, sed bene velle minus. Now I have known you: therefore I burn more fiercely. How is this you ask? Because such an injury drives a lover to love more often, but to be less friendly. You see, you are constantly on my mind. There is no getting rid of me, at least without a fight!!
